The figure below shows the LPT pinout and connection to the display controller. Reading from display is only possible in 4-bit-mode with LPT-Display.exe. For using the reading functionality some further hardware like diodes may be necessary in order to not disturb other signals of the port. For reason of downward compatibility EPP/ECP mode is not used.

LPT-Display.exe can run Your display controller in 4-bit or 8-bit bus mode. When changing the bus mode, re-initiatlization is necessary (Button "Init HD44"). For more detailed information see section "Reference" or the Datasheet, downloadable at Hitachi homepage).
